But Are You Registered To Vote?

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

Some of the most unexpected voices of Hollywood and the music industry take to social to implore their followers and fans to register to vote.

Efforts around getting people to register to vote have exploded since this is the most important election of our lifetime (in case you have been hiding under a rock). It seems like every day something from the media is ready to surprise us. Watching the debate debacle made people feel physically ill but the craziest news came last night when word broke that Trump and Melania confirmed testing positive for COVID.

The most reassuring action that has come from all of this is the fact the people who perhaps in 2016 didn't dare to utter a peep about the importance of voting are finally understanding the dire circumstances. Others are continuing to reinforce their messages and are already way ahead of the game.

Tyler, The Creator took to Instagram TV to post a serious message.

"Yo it's T. Look I know I'm the last person y'all should ever take advice from - but I'm reiterating what everyone else is saying. Please please if you are young and your fuckin' back don't hurt - go to dem polls and cast a fucking vote. And i didn't give a fuck about non of this shit just like a lot of y'all - this is actually gonna be my first time voting. But I see the light..."

One of the most shocking (yet brilliant) ones yet has been Kylie Jenner who casually took to her socials on a hot September day to ask her millions of followers if they are registered. This lil bikini post caused a 1500% surge of website traffic to vote.org and registered more than 50,000 voters.

Continuing to do the lords work is Frank Ocean, who shortly after the shit show of a debate in Ohio between Biden and Trump, launched his own voter registration campaign on his story. Although the post was only around for 24 hours, Frank Ocean's website https://blonded.co/ has been transformed into a voter registration hub with a new ticker counting down to November 3rd. Other options on his site include a link to check your eligibility to vote if you are a felon or if you are active military serving oversees. You can also simply check your registration status. This isn’t the first time that Frank Ocean has taken action to increase youth and minority voter turnout. During the 2018 United States Midterm Elections, he released free merch for those who voted. He paired those limited apparel items with his blondedRADIO Midterms Special episodes.

The post on his story was a simple text post that read,

“Donald is President and might not leave the White House even if he loses the race so some say. Please vote. Watching him dragged out will be way more entertaining than these debates. If you’re not registered swipe up to BLONDED.CO. The form just takes two minutes to fill out. Goodnight.”

In all seriousness, If you live in California your deadline to register to vote by mail or online is October 19th. You will be ready to vote by mail with an absentee ballot as early as October 5th. The big day to vote in person is November 3rd, however we suggest biting the bullet and getting your vote in as early as possible. Make sure you have your Drivers License ID and Social Security number (last 4 digits) ready to go.
